"Summertime is always the best of what might be." -Charles Bowden
July was a great month! Among all of our other activities we took a trip to North Myrtle Beach, but I'll do a separate blog post about that since there are a lot of photos. :-) Here's a look at some non-beach things that we did!
We went to the Fun Forth Celebration in downtown Greensboro on July 4th, as we do every year. It's always hot, but it was a lot more comfortable for me this year than it was last year when I was 37.5 weeks pregnant with Elisabeth!
We switched the kids car seats around. Joseph moved, at age 4 years and 9 months, to a forward facing car seat. I'm so thankful we were able to keep him rear facing for so long! But it's also been fun for him to have a new forward facing perspective. Our goal had been just to keep him rear facing until 4, so we had well exceeded what we had hoped for. Lizzie also moved to her brother's old car seat from her infant seat, where she'll hopefully continue to rear face past 4, too. His last rear-facing ride. Yes, his legs were getting pretty-squished rear-facing, but it's a common myth about extended rear-facing that this is dangerous or uncomfortable. Statistics show that extended rear-facing is 4-5 times safer, no matter how squished those legs get. And kiddos are really good at getting comfy in odd positions. :-) |

We had a La Leche meeting at Scuppernong Books in downtown Greensboro. Both my kiddos enjoyed the venue, specifically the snacks...
We had Lizzie's 1 year checkup with our amazing pediatrician, Dr. Lowe. We absolutely love her. While miss Lizzie doesn't look so happy here, I can assure you it was from a new tooth coming in, not dislike for our favorite doctor. ;-) I'll also add that Dr. Lowe chose to make this her Facebook profile picture, so now many people have gotten to see how "spirited" our little diva can be! LOL.
We went to the Natural Science Center/Greensboro Zoo with a friend...always a fun time!
I've always had a tradition of taking pictures of my kids at the EXACT moment that they turn a year older. I started it when Joseph turned a year and have always continued it. So here is Lizzie exactly one year from her birth...3:13pm on July 18th. :-)
We also had Lizzie's first birthday party the following weekend...a watermelon theme for our summer girl! So much fun! Davids parents, sister, and our nephews came into town for it, so we got to enjoy lots of time that weekend with our entire family together (his and mine). So blessed!!!

See this sweet lady in the navy shirt? That's my dear friend Heather. Not only does she always manage to get her own family to our birthday parties, but she works herself to death helping out! |

The birthday girl fell fast asleep for present-opening time, so we had to depend on her brother and nephews to get the job done |
And, parting pictures of these two silly kiddos...

Babies in seersucker...by far one of my favorite things about summer in the south! |
