Mayberry Days, Hamilton Lakes Fundraiser, and Crossroads Reunion

"I miss Mayberry, sittin' on the porch, drinkin' ice cold Cherry Coke..." -Rascal Flatts

I am way overdue, as usual, on updating the blog. So I'll start by telling you what we did one weekend about a month ago. This particular weekend that I'm referring to was a busy one, but lots of fun! It started by going to the Mayberry Days Festival in Mount Airy. If you grew up watching Andy Griffith, like I did, it's really fun. :)

There was some bluegrass going on when we first got there...

We walked around a little while, then headed over to the famous Snappy Lunch to get pork chop sandwiches! As we waited in line outside, we got to see Floyd's Barber Shop and watch Snappy's employees cook through the window. Once we got inside, we got to enjoy the pork chop sandwiches themselves!

For dessert, we went to the old fashioned candy store next door to Snappy Lunch and got a bag of goodies...

And we ended the visit by walking down and checking out the beautiful little Episcopal Church and Garden in downtown Mount Airy...

When we got back to Greensboro that evening, we had another fun event to get to. Our neighborhood, Hamilton Lakes, was founded back in the 1920s by a man named A.M Scales. A very affluent man, he built his 11,000 square foot mansion on Hamilton Lake. It has been there ever since and is stunning! You can read more about his house and our neighborhood here (http://hamiltonstarmount.org/who-we-are/). Anyway, the neighborhood association (which is a voluntary membership association) held a fundraiser on the grounds of the mansion that evening, featuring dinner and social time. It is close enough to our house for us to walk! So David and I went, of course, and had a great time!

After eating and hanging out, David and I walked down to the lake and sat until it got dark...very romantic :-)

You would think this would be enough activity for one weekend, but there was more! The following day, Sunday, we had a picnic to go to after church. It was a reunion for Crossroads, the singles grounp at our church that I was in when I first got out of college 8 years ago. David and I had a great time and I loved catching up with everyone!

What a busy, but fun, weekend!

Greek Festival and Carolina Game

"Fans goin' crazy for the boys of fall..." -Kenny Chesney

Last Friday night, David and I went to the Greensboro Greek Festival. The Greek Orthodox Church is LESS than a half mile from our house, so we decided to walk up there to eat dinner. :)

I took a lot of pictures of our journey for some reason...I guess I just thought it was cool that we were close enough to walk to it...the joys of city livin'!

The food was yummy!!! David got the Greek Chicken Platter, and I got the Spartan Vegetable Platter! This is a picture from my perspective!

I took a couple of pictures of my hubby enjoying the festivities...

And of course, we left with a box of assorted Greek pastries...

The next morning (Saturday) we got up and headed to Chapel Hill for the Carolina-UVA football game. We went with my coworker and friend, Valerie, and her husband Rick. They were so sweet to let us go with them!

Another wonderful weekend!!!

Winston-Salem Air Show

"First in Flight" -NC License Plate Slogan

Weekend before last, we went to the annual Winston-Salem Air Show with my parents. We had a great time!

Older military planes...very cool...

The sky was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!

This is the NEW HondaJet, being made in Greensboro! Very cool plane with a super QUIET engine!

We saw a B-52 Bomber - BIG PLANE!

We saw extreme bikes...kind of cool, but also kind of crazy. I don't want our future kids doing this!!!

AND, the finale - the STEALTH BOMBER CAME!!!! WOW WOW WOW!!!! SOOOOO COOL!!!

What a great day!

Labor Day in Highlands

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time." ~J. Lubbock

We had a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day weekend with David's parents at their mountain house in Highlands, NC.

Our first morning there, we took a walk down the street that their house is on...the weather was great!!!

We also went to the arts and crafts market downtown. This gentleman was disabled and could not paint with his hands, but thus painted with his TEETH!!! AMAZING!!! His works were beautiful!!!

Over the next few days, David and his Dad did a lot of fishing at Mirror Lake, while his Mom and I sat with them and read books and magazines. :) They caught LOTS of bream!!!

MY HANDSOME HUSBAND!!!

One morning we went to Dry Falls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_Falls_%28North_Carolina%29), one of the many beautiful waterfalls in Highlands!!! We got some great pictures here!!!

This is what it looks like walking UNDER Dry Falls!!!

One afternoon we went to lunch at Cornucopia (http://www.cornucopianc.com/) in nearby Cashiers, which has been one of David's favorite restaurants for years. Delicious!!! :) And we had a great time walking around the attached cheese shop, too!

We also had a great time as always with Rocky, the family dog!!! We love him so much!!! David managed to steal a kiss from him, and David's mom had to wrestle a pair of socks away from Rocky at one point (as always happens) :)

We had a wonderful time with family and a very relaxing vacation!!!
