"I got better things to do than my to do list anyway...let's hide under the covers and waste away the day." -Sugarland
We had an awesome, laid-back kind of weekend!!! Things started off fun for me on Friday morning, when I woke up to find out that I was on a 2-hour work delay due to some sleet and freezing rain. I was already showered and dressed when I found this out, so I decided to use the extra time to be productive around the house and decorate for Valentine's Day! For those of you who know me well, you know that I LOVE LOVE LOVE to celebrate and decorate for EVERY random little holiday and event. So Valentine's Decor was a must. Here are a few pictures of some of it:
I used the basket and bear that David gave me on the day he proposed to me (Valentine's Day 2009) as part of the decor (filled it with some fake apples that we usually keep in a different basket in the kitchen)...
I had some other cute Valentine's and love-themed stuffed animals that I used...
I put all of these together, along with a photo from our wedding, for a little Valentine's display on a hutch that we have in our kitchen...
I set up our kitchen table for the holiday...
And also put a little display on the cafe table in our den...
Friday evening, David grilled (in the freezing cold) steakburgers for dinner for us. Then we realized that we had no buns! So I grabbed some wheat bread, brushed it with melted butter and lemon pepper (yum!), and toasted it in the oven to make our own hamburger bread. We slapped some cheese on and felt good about our creativity...
Then David grabbed the "Stubb's" bbq sauce and we upped the deliciousness even more...
After our yummy Friday-night dinner, my sweet friend Jennifer stopped by to visit us a little while. We had fun chatting with her in our living room (now that we actually have it furnished). After she left, we put the camera on a timer and snapped a picture of us on our new living room sofa...
Then we headed out to Harris Teeter to pick up some things, and in the process rented a movie from Redbox, "Shutter Island," a psychological thriller that turned out to be really good. After we got home and before we got ready to watch the movie, we made chocolate-banana smoothies for a healthy, late-evening treat. They were delicious! For those of you who have never made smoothies, you have no idea how easy it can be (if you have a blender, of course). For this one, all I used was milk, chocolate ice cream, banana, and a few chopped-up pieces of chocolate candy. It was great to sip on during the movie, all comfy in our pajamas (and me unashamedly in my Snuggie)...
Saturday during the day, we didn't do much, which was kind of nice for once! We hung out around the house and watched TV and rested. Then Saturday evening we had a double date with our good friends Marsha and Brian. We went to their house and made sushi with them (veggie sushi for me, regular for everyone else). Marsha and Brian are super good cooks and very creative, so they got to really help us with the sushi-making and in making some spring rolls. A great meal and fun fellowship (after dinner was over, the four of us played Wii) :-)
Today, we had a great Sunday - church, watched the Heels beat Florida State, and now, the Superbowl.
Praise the Lord for a wonderful weekend of rest and fun!!!
