"I don't care what the West Coast says, 'cause I love those Myrtle Beach, love those Myrtle Beach days..." -The Fantastic Shakers
We thought this weekend's beach trip would be a good subject for our first blog post. We left Thursday morning around 5am and got back this afternoon. We had a wonderful time! God blessed us with tons of sunshine and no rain other than one night while were asleep.
We ate a big breakfast at Shoney's on the way down. We were there at about 6:30am, so we were the only people there to eat that early! Had the place all to ourselves. :-)
Instead of staying in a hotel, we camped at Myrtle Beach Travel Park (which is where Lisa's family used to camp when she was a little girl). It was a great choice of accomodations and adds a little "outdoor adventure" to the beach experience. Here is our tent, and a picture of Lisa taken inside our little tent before bed one evening. It was a little cozy in there, but we still had room for the aero-bed and were quite comfortable!
We spent lots of time on the beach and it was HOT, but we got some good swimming in. Had to be very careful in the water Friday morning due to some shark sightings (and yes, we did see some ourselves), but we were very careful and didn't let that drive us totally away from the water.
Loved these mirrors at Barefoot Landing...we call this our "short and stubby" look...
Here I am before going out to dinner on Saturday night and here is David eating crab legs. We ate at a number of good places while we there, including Carolina Roadhouse, Fire Island, and Original Benjamin's Calabash Seafood. Also did some shopping and a wine-tasting.
Of course on the way home today we had to stop and go to the top of the giant sombrero at South of the Border in Dillon, SC. Where else can you pay $1 to get a bird-eye view of so much tackiness???
Apparently the trip wore me out, as my sweet husband so thoughtfully took a picture of me sleeping on the way home today...
We had a wonderful time and were really blessed by a great vacation!
