Two Weeks in Review 6/15/15-6/28/15

Well, this blog post is going to lack many pictures, and, once you find out how we spent the first week that it covers, you will thank me for that.  TRUST me.  

So, two Sundays ago we woke up to the sound of Joseph vomiting in his crib at 5am (what a lovely thing to hear over the baby monitor).  We got him up, cleaned him up, and he proceeded to throw up 4 more times that morning.  But, after that, he was TOTALLY fine.  I mean, no fever, no more throwing up, full of energy.  So, instead of assuming it was a virus, we assumed maybe his body just had a bad reaction to the slight bits of dairy we had been reintroducing to him (we periodically reintroduce dairy to see if his dairy allergy is getting better, worse, or staying the same).  So, instead of taking any germ precautions, we just went about life as usual.  We went to my parents and grandmother for dinner that Sunday night and did our normal stuff.

Were we ever WRONG about the "no virus" thing.

I woke up Monday morning at 4-something am.  Noticed David wasn't in bed with me and got up to check on him...he was in our bathroom throwing up.  I STILL was in denial.  I truly wanted to believe this was just a fluke, or that maybe something he ate upset his stomach.  But I couldn't deny that I felt a teeny bit queasy myself.  

At 8-something am, I threw up for the first time.  Yup, it was becoming apparent that what Joseph had had the day before was a stomach bug and that we had caught it.  But we also felt good about the fact that, if Joseph's virus only lasted 1/2 day, ours would be over in just a few hours, too.

WRONG AGAIN.

I'll spare everyone further detail.  You don't want it, trust me.  But David called in sick and we spent the entire day battling extreme nausea and vomiting.  Poor Joseph was feeling fine and didn't understand why mommy and daddy couldn't plan like usual.  It was AWFUL.

This ended up being the stomach bug of all stomach bugs.  Our nausea lasted a FULL THREE DAYS.  It was horrible!  The only time in my life I've felt worse was during my 2004 bout of food poisoning (which I will say WAS much worse - I really did think food poisoning would kill me).  

But that's not all - on Tuesday night, my 93 year old grandmother had to be taken via ambulance to the ER for dehydration from vomiting.  And then my mother came down with it the next day.  All in all, their experience involved 2 separate ER trips and 2 nights of hospitalization for my grandmother.  My dad is the only one of us who didn't ever get it (I awarded him the "SUPER IMMUNE SYSTEM" badge of honor).

Let's just say, next time any of us gets even a TEENY bit sick (with ANYTHING, not just a stomach bug), I mean even a LITTLE, then my infection control protocols are going in high gear.  The CDC won't have anything on this mama!

SO, seeing as how we spent a good part of that week just trying not to die, I didn't get a lot of pictures.

On that Friday (once we were all feeling better) I had trouble getting Joseph down for a nap in his crib, so I popped him in the Tula.  He was out within 5 minutes and I was able to make a successful transfer to the couch...

On Father's Day, we took Joseph to the park for a bit, then went to my parents house for dinner.  I don't have any other Father's Day pictures, either.  Told you that was a rough week.  :-(  But I hope my dear husband, father, father-in-law, and all the other daddies out there had an awesome day!

 This past week was much better since we were feeling well again!  We went to hang out at my grandmother's house on Tuesday to wait for the garbage truck to come by...still one of Joseph's favorite activities.  My mom got several pics of my little cutie with her camera!

And, from Thursday through Saturday afternoon, David's parents (Mimi and Poppy) came to visit us!  We had so much fun!  We went shopping, ate some tasty meals, and the entire family (my parents, David's parents, etc) went out to dinner Friday night.  A great weekend!

Week in Review 6/8/15-6/14/15

We had several fun things last week!  Early in the week, we went to an event at our local Friendly Center Harris Teeter called "Share the Sweetness."  It was a partnership between Southern Breeze Sweet Tea and the Greensboro Police Department for National Iced Tea Day.  Joseph got a personal tour of the Greensboro Police Mobile Command Center (which is used in standoff/hostage situations, etc) by officer Sue Davis.

He also got some prizes from Southern Breeze Sweet Tea...

And Jojo and Papaw got on WFMY2 news!!!

Then, on Saturday, we went downtown to the National Night Out Kick-off Block Party, sponsored by the Greensboro Police Department.  Joseph got to visit with his favorite GPD officer, "Miss Rosanne."  We know Rosanne through the community watch program in my parent's neighborhood and Joseph absolutely adores her.  In fact, whenever we are outside and hear a police siren, he stops dead in his tracks, smiles, and says "Ooooh, Miss Rosanne's car!"  He hadn't seen her in a few months, and he was so excited to hang out with her again!

Joseph, along with David and Papaw, got to sit in one of these awesome National Guard humvees.

We got to talk to firemen, and they showed Joseph some of their equipment, which was super cool!

And we got to eat a free picnic of hotdogs and hamburgers!

For several reasons, David and I have a special spot in our hearts for law enforcement officers, so it was great to spend part of our week celebrating our first responders!

Week in Review 6/1/15-6/7/15

I didn't do the best job of remembering to take pictures, but at least I got a few!

Thursday, while I was cooking dinner, Joseph was playing with my phone and kept asking to take pictures with me.  I'm not an enormous selfie-fan, but I had to make my little guy happy. :-)

Thursday evening, we took Joseph to a nearby park.  He certainly had a good time sliding, and I think his daddy did, too.  ;-)

Friday morning, we met my dear friend Heather and her little man, Samuel, at the Piedmont Triad Farmer's Market for shopping and lunch.  I know I've mentioned her on here before, but Heather and I have been friends for around 9ish+ years.  We met in the singles group at the church I was going to in Winston-Salem and have been fast friends ever since.  We got engaged within 5 months of each other, got married within 4 months of each other (where we were each others maid/matron of honor) and had our little boys 6 weeks apart from each other.  I love love love her and her little man.  Samuel and Joseph had SUCH a good time together!

After we got home on Friday, Joseph was super worn out and super cranky but didn't want to nap in his crib or on the couch.  Finally I asked if he'd like to get in the Tula and he said yes.  It took about 5 minutes for him to be out like a light, and then I was able to do a Tula-to-couch transfer.  Love this sleepy boy!

Week in Review 5/25/15-5/31/15

On Memorial Day Monday, we again took Joseph to the park.  He is really starting to branch out more at playgrounds.  For the longest time, all he wanted to do was swing.  Now he has started to like sliding, climbing, and all the other things!

We also went to Bicentennial Gardens to walk around that afternoon, but it was hot and I didn't think to get many pictures...

Now we will skip all the way to Saturday, because I did a terrible job of taking pictures the majority of the week.  On Saturday, we kept our sweet little friend, Grayson, while his parents went to his big sister's dance recital (we also went out to eat with them afterwards which was super fun!).  Grayson is about 15 months younger than Joseph and it was so fun to have two little boys in the house for the afternoon!  We played inside for a bit and then took a walk down to the lake.  Grayson rode down to the lake in Joseph's old Boba, and it was so fun to have a little one snuggled on my front again (technically Joseph can still ride on my front and occasionally does, but at his size it's much more comfy to have him on my back in the toddler Tula).  Once at the lake, David and Joseph went fishing while Grayson hung out with me at a nearby bench.

This boy mama loved having an extra little boy to play with on Saturday afternoon!  Just look at these two cuties!

Not sure what was going on here with Joseph's expression/body language, but it was funny.

That is me perched tentatively in the background, ready to grab the little arm of either child who might accidentally reach for a fishing hook or anything else dangerous! ;-)
