Highlands Trip - Labor Day Weekend

"The mark of a successful man is one that has spent an entire day on the bank of a river without feeling guilty about it." ~Author Unknown

For Labor Day weekend, we had a family vacation in Highlands NC. It was David, myself, and both sets of our parents at David's family's mountain house. This is the second time we've all gone up there together and it was a blast! We left Friday evening and came back Monday. We had beautiful FALL weather with the temperatures dropping into the 40's at night!

Saturday morning, we woke up and spent some quality time on the porch drinking coffee and hanging out in the front yard...

The arbor that David's parents created in the front yard...

David and his Dad threw the football...

After enjoying the porch and yard for a while, we headed into town to do a little shopping...

Then we all did a cookout by the Cullasaja River...

And then went to see Dry Falls, always a favorite...

We also went to the Bascom Center for Visual Arts, which was really amazing. When we first got there, we checked out Patrick Dougherty's environmental sculpture "Do Tell." Very interesting...

One of the exhibits was "Classic Motorcycles"...

And we saw a ceramic called "Untitled" by Ben Owen, a famous Seagrove potter who was actually a distant relative of mine. Cool!

Then we finished our first day with a trip down to Harris Lake in town...

And dinner at the Main Street Inn Bistro...yum!

To cap off the night, we came back to the house and each had a glass of ChocoVine - which is red wine mixed with Belgium Chocolate. It was AMAZING!

The next morning, we got up and spent a long time hanging out around the house:

And then hours outside in the front yard around the Stubblefield's water feature...how relaxing!

We even had some really restful time on the hammock!

And on our trip into town, the men even got their picture taken with a Bentley Convertible!

We had a relaxing day, and then had dinner at On The Verandah in Highlands, followed by ice cream at Sweet Treats.

We SOOOO hated to leave!!! What a wonderful weekend with out families!
